How did I get started making ocarinas? Several years ago I was on a family trip to Boston when I chanced upon a Honduran street vendor selling tiny clay musical instruments ("ocarinas," he explained) that immediately sparked my imagination. Here, I thought, was possibly my dream instrument — one easy to carry and to play anytime, anywhere. I needed little time to decide to buy one, and even less to discover that what I had bought could scarcely play a recognizable tune. Nonetheless, that "chance" encounter was to inspire my quest for a really wonderful ocarina, a quest that has led me down the long and often challenging road to producing my own dream ocarinas.
